Medina is about 23 miles west of our kitchen, a straight run out Route 18 through Fairlawn, Montrose and Granger in around forty minutes. We plan the cook around that drive so hot food arrives in chafing service at serving temperature, and we set the display on site the same way we do in Akron.
A city of 26,000 built around one of the best preserved Victorian squares in Ohio has a particular kind of event calendar: weddings and showers that want the Square in the photos, corporate lunches for the companies headquartered in town, and the family gatherings of a county seat with growing subdivisions on every side.

Medina Square is a nine block historic district around Uptown Park, rebuilt in matching Victorian brick after the fire of 1870. It is where Medina gathers: the Candlelight Walk in November, the Ice Festival in February, the farmers’ market and the concerts in the gazebo, and the showers and rehearsal dinners booked in the restaurants and halls around it. The Medina County Fair takes over the fairgrounds every August.
Corporate Medina is bigger than the town suggests. RPM International is headquartered here, A.I. Root has been in Medina since 1869 and still makes its candles on West Liberty Street, and the industrial parks along Route 18 and Route 3 hold the lunches, trainings and appreciation days on the Medina side of our calendar.
Brunswick, Wadsworth, Hinckley, Granger and the rest of Medina County are inside the same plan, and Wadsworth and Granger are closer to the kitchen than the Square is.
